Why teach
I believe teaching is a career that take a very special person to do. I believe this because teachers have the task of educating the next generations of children but also do much more than teach and plan lessons. Teachers are mentors, a friendly face, they provide a safe place for kids to come each day, and are students biggest supporter! For myself I am getting a degree in elementary education because school was something I struggled with due to having dyslexia. Growing up my brother never had to study he would go to class and take in what the teachers lesson was and that was enough for him. I myself had to really focus, study, and even had a private tutor to help me with my dyslexia. I want to teach because I have been that kid that is struggling when everyone else understands and I want to help future generations of kids overcome their struggles, and teach kids lessons in many different ways because not everyone learns the same way. Also believe that in lower grades having a teacher that cares about their students and the material is important for students to grasp the concepts. I myself had a teacher that seemed to not care about their responsibilities as an educator as they should have and due to that I feel like I and other students had to play catch up the next year on certain concepts.
In high school I took a class where I had to student teach at an elementary school in my district and overall help in the classroom. From the first day in that class I decided I would love to teach kindergarten. Being a kindergarten teacher you get to teach a little bit of everything and I find that exciting, because everyday will come with a new adventure! I see myself teaching in a smaller district or a small town because that is what I grew up in. I believe that I would prefer this because I feel like the school would feel more like a community and be united. I also think in a smaller area you have less kids in a classroom giving you more room to have brain breaks, flexible seating options, and overall more of a connection with parents.
Your struggles will go a long way to setting the stage for you as you prepare to teach. Being able to fully grasp the struggles of any student is a game-changer for teachers.
